      BISHOP'S HULL
FATAL ACCIDENT. A fatal accident occurred on Monday evening last to a man named Robert Smith, of Bishops Hull, in the employ of Mr. Macey, builder. Deceased, who is about forty years of age, had been assisting one of his neighbours to draw potatoes, and was on his way home in the cart, along with another man. When near Mr. Patton's the deceased observed something wrong with the harness, and stopping the horse got out to put it right. He was in the act of mounting again, when horse at the same time going on, the wheel passed over his stomach, crushing him most severely. The other man, not seeing his companion, and hearing groans, got out and asked what was the matter, and the deceased repliedm "I am a dead man." Stimulants were at once given him, but the injury was so severe that he died within half-an-hour.

He was in the act of mounting again, when, it is supposed, his foot slipped, and he fell; the horse at the same time going on, the wheel passed over his stomach, crushing him most severely. The other man, not seeing his companion, and hearing groans, got out and asked what was the matter, and the deceased repliedm "I am a dead man." Stimulants were at once given him, but the injury was so severe that he died within half-an-hour. An inquest will shortly be held to enquire into the matter.
