  The Family of John LANE (my 2nd Great Granduncle) & Fanny PROCTOR of Taunton: [Taunton until c1870, then Bristol (1881), Plymouth (1891) & Devonport (1901)] John LANE (c1843 Taunton – after 1901), Iron Moulder, & wife Fanny PROCTOR (1844 of Wellington, Somerset – after 1901) married in Taunton in 1864. BMD & baptism records show that the couple had at least 13 children, suggesting significant descendants in the SW of England and possibly overseas. This is unconfirmed by 1911 census details as both are missing. 5 of their children were baptised on the same day in 1886 at Redcliffe St Mary, Bristol. The couple last confirmed appearance in the UK is on the 1901 Plymouth census. As no clear death records are indicated it is possible they left England to join family overseas before 1911 (noting a son emigrated around 1901), however stories in one family line suggests John may have died in the Workhouse, and therefore in England: · William Robert LANE (1865 Taunton – 1945 Bristol), Iron moulder m. 1883 Bristol = Eliza Jane WHITROW. Both sons, Iron moulders, were lodging separately in Twerton, SOM. In 1891 he appears to be a scholar "under detention" on the vessel "Formidable" in Redcliffe, and a labourer in 1901 = Rosa Elizabeth BEAKE in 1907: o Lily Rose M L LANE (1914-70) = Mervyn W NASH in 1934; o Dorothy R E LANE (1916-16); · Arthur James Proctor LANE (1878 Bristol – 1957 Minnesota, USA), m. 1898 Plymouth = Louisa HEALY. Arthur arrived in the US c1903, after abandoning his wife Louisa in England. It is unlikely they divorced, making his subsequent marriages illegal. The US family report he entered the US illegally from Canada. In the 1911 UK census Louisa is a married servant in Plymouth and dies there a widow after AJPL's death. The are no indicated children from this relationship. The 1901 census in Plymouth had Arthur & Louisa LANE present with their ages but then a list of LANEs and an Elizabeth HEALY all crossed out (suggesting they incorrectly filled out all their living relatives even though not resident with them). In order, they were William, Walter, Fanny, Florence, Rose, Harry, Albert, Nellie, Ernest, Harold & Frederick, which match the age order of Arthur's siblings, excluding Frank. This was probably an error by Arthur to fill out his entire family as the siblings were elsewhere. It does, however, independently confirm the full list of his siblings. Why Frank was left out is unknown. In the US, AJPL appears in Summit, Ohio in 1910 with Canadian wife Ada NORTON (d/o Thomas NORTON of Lucan, Ontario) and their 4 y.o. daughter Dorothy LANE (born 1906 in Manhattan, New York). They were probably married in Canada or Ohio around 1904/1905. It is unclear what happens to both Ada & Dorothy (who may have returned to Canada post-divorce), however by 1912 AJPL is in Wisconsin having married Aurelia M WALDO (1897-1987), which produced the 5 children listed below. In 1917 (when he enlists), he is in Stark, North Dakota, working as a movie film operator in the Rialto cinema, confirmed as married to Aurelia. By 1920 he is a theatre manager in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. The family report that he was divorced at the time but he kept his children in an orphanage, even though they were also appearing on stage at his theatre. After their divorce, Aurelia married Joseph George JABER (1889-1978) in 1929 Summit, Ohio (lived in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin), then Anton “Tony” Droxler KILDAY (1905-1979) before 1940, before moving to Los Angeles, in California. AJPL married Swedish widow Hilda Victoria DOYLE in Minnesota abt 1935, both living there until their deaths in the 1950's. The 5 known children of AJPL & Aurelia WALDO are: o Harriet E “Hattie” LANE (1912 Wisconsin – 2001 Minnesota) = Arthur G SNEEN; o Robert Frederick LANE aka Robert James Frederick LANE (1913 Wisconsin - 1981 Covina, LA, CA) = Dorothy Louise BALLARD in 1932 Fillmore. Dorothy remarried after divorce to Oral Otis PARROTT (1907-1979) in 1946. Robert remarried to Doris (their marriage lasted less than 10 years following the death of their son John “Johnny” LANE aged 8 (buried Fort Snelling)). Robert's 3rd wife was Betty A. Robert served in the US army and gained a Bronze Star & Purple Heart. Robert & Dorothy had 2 children: § Robert Jack LANE II (1933-2012 Minnesota) = Mary Jane BECK in 1951. However, family records confirm she had an illegitimate son Walter Thomas Edward BOWDEN in 1902 by William Thomas BOWDEN (1842-1910).
